A western Indiana man who caused a 2015 traffic accident that killed two Muncie sisters was sentenced Thursday to 80 days in jail.
MUNCIE, Ind. – A western Indiana man who caused a 2015 traffic accident that killed two Muncie sisters was sentenced Thursday to 80 days in the Vermilion County jail.
After completing his jail term, Ethan N. Lee, now 20, will serve 1,400 days in a home-detention program overseen by Vermillion County community corrections officials
Sisters Annie Clark, 18, and Caroline Clark, 16, were killed on Jan. 2,2015, when they were passengers in a pickup truck, driven by Lee, that became airborne and crashed into a building in Cayuga, a few miles east of the Illinois border.
The Clark sisters were students at Cowan Junior-Senior High School.
A third passenger in the vehicle, Braeden Hollowell, 17, was also killed in the crash. He and Lee were both residents of Cayuga.
Authorities said Lee, 18 at the time, was traveling as fast as 87 mph – in a 25-mph zone – when he lost control of his vehicle.
Lee was indicted by a Vermilion County grand jury in January 2016 on three counts of reckless homicide, criminal mischief, reckless driving and false informing.
On Thursday, however, Lee pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal recklessness, a Level 5 felony carrying a standard three-year sentence.
Judge Bruce Stengel – who last March rejected an earlier plea agreement – this week accepted the terms of a new one.
