"This was my mistake": Marshalltown fire chief now says no one died in carbon monoxide poisoning

The Marshalltown fire department admits that they should have confirmed the report.
The Marshalltown fire department now says no one died in a carbon monoxide incident at a supposedly abandoned church.
A Nov. 6 news release from the fire department stated that one person died from carbon monoxide poisoning while gathering at the church. The department further told the Register Tuesday that the victim had been airlifted to a Des Moines hospital.
But a Wednesday news release from the department now corrects the error, stating that no lives were lost. The release apologized for releasing inaccurate information.
Fire Chief David Rierson told the Des Moines Register that he takes full responsibility for the error. „The announcement was made based off incorrect information I was given,“ he said. „I should have confirmed it.“
Pedro and Milie Garcia, the pastors of the church group affected by the carbon monoxide, could not be reached for comment.
