A 68-year-old man was hospitalized after he was ejected from his lawnmower during a traffic crash in Sanilac Township.
According to a release from the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department, a 2004 Jeep was southbound on South Lakeshore Road near Washington Road at around 2:20 p.m. when the vehicle in front reportedly rapidly slowed down.
The 23-year-old Port Huron man driving the Jeep locked up his brakes, according to police, and swerved to avoid a collision — finding a lawnmower with a snowblower in a nearby driveway was in his path.
The Jeep pinned the lawnmower against a guardrail. Ejected from the mower was a 68-year-old man, who was transported to McKenzie Hospital by Sanilac EMS with unspecified injuries.
According to police, the initial vehicle that slowed to avoid the lawnmower has not been located as of early this evening, though witnesses told police it was a small SUV that is possibly gold in color.
Sanilac deputies are encouraging anyone driving that vehicle to contact the sheriff’s department at (810) 648-2000.
The names of the individuals involved in the crash are being withheld pending further investigation of the incident.
According to police, the driver of the Jeep was wearing his seatbelt and alcohol is believed not to be a factor.
