New reports discredit previous rumors that Battlefield: Bad Company 3 will be 2018’s Battlefield game, with the new game said to be set during World War 2 instead.
A few days ago, YouTuber AlmightyDaq, who accurately predicted Battlefield 1‘s World War 1 setting, claimed 2018’s Battlefield game would be Battlefield: Bad Company 3. However, AlmightyDaq has since backtracked on his claims, and now believes that DICE is working on a new Battlefield game set in World War 2 instead.
Eurogamer reached out to AlmightyDaq after some of its sources denied his claims that Battlefield: Bad Company 3 would launch in 2018. It was at this point that AlmightyDaq said that DICE Sweden is actually working on a World War 2 Battlefield game for release in 2018, and that Battlefield: Bad Company 3 is currently in development at DICE Los Angeles.
For the uninitiated, DICE Los Angeles is the studio that currently works on post-release content for Battlefield games. Previously, the studio developed its own games, like the 2010 Medal of Honor reboot and its sequel, though both projects launched to mixed reviews from critics. Considering this, it seems somewhat unlikely that EA would trust the studio with developing a full-fledged Battlefield: Bad Company 3 on its own.
While Battlefield: Bad Company 3‘s existence can’t be confirmed or denied at this point, if the game does exist, one has to wonder when exactly it will release. We know a new Battlefield game is coming in 2018, but apparently it will be set during World War 2, which wouldn’t make sense with Bad Company‘s timeline. Perhaps the Battlefield World War 2 game will launch in 2018, and Bad Company 3 will follow it in 2019.
Previously, one would assume Star Wars Battlefront 3 would be a guarantee for release in 2019 instead of a new Battlefield game, but that’s not necessarily the case anymore. Star Wars Battlefront 2‘s loot box system has caused such a severe backlash that the Star Wars Battlefront brand may be permanently damaged, and it may not be smart for EA to release another entry in the series so soon. Therefore, the long-rumored Bad Company 3 could take its spot in 2019.
Many fans would love to see Battlefield: Bad Company 3 finally materialize, but there’s no way to know at this point if the game exists at all. Anyone holding out hope that the game will launch within the next couple of years will want to keep their eyes on DICE to see exactly what 2018’s Battlefield game has in store for fans of the franchise.
