Five Nights at Freddy’s developer Scott Cawthon, as he’s wont to do, dropped a new game on Steam today without much fanfare. It’s called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator and — best of all — it’s free.
The game’s description calls Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator a “fun Five Nights at Freddy’s adventure with a lighter touch for the holidays.” The game, which looks simple and low-res in screenshots on Steam, puts players in charge of developing their own Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza franchise. “Design pizzas, feed kids, and get high scores!” the game’s description reads.
Of course, it didn’t take long for Five Nights at Freddy’s fans to realize that Pizzeria Simulator is more than it initially claims to be. What is presented as a restaurant management sim peppered with minigames eventually turns into something else. Spoiler alert, though you’ve probably figured this out by now: It’s basically Five Nights at Freddy’s 6.
Cawthon signaled the release of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator back in June, when he said that he’d effectively stopped working on a sixth Five Nights at Freddy’s game.
“For the last month or so I’ve been dropping hints about a new game; and it’s true that I’d been working on one (call it FNaF 6 if you’d like.)” Cawthon said . “But after forcing myself to keep working on it day after day, I realized something: I just don’t want to work on this. With each game’s release, I think the expectations get higher and higher for the next, and rightfully so. Each game SHOULD be better than the last! But that pressure starts to mount, and I fear that I’ve been neglecting other things in my life for the sake of trying to keep up with those mounting expectations.
“So, after giving this a lot of thought; I’ve decided that I’m going to stop working on it. I’m not going to reveal anything else about what the game was, and I’ve asked other people involved to never divulge anything either. It’s just not going to be talked about.”
While many Five Nights at Freddy’s fans assumed Cawthon’s statement was some sort of publicity stunt or prank, he followed up in a post on Steam to clarify his comment. “Yes, I need a break,” he said, adding, “No, it’s not a troll. (Would I ever troll you guys?)”
Cawthon said he wanted to make “something more lighthearted just as a way of relaxing” and pledged to release that project for free. And here we are.
You can download Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator for Windows PC via Steam .
