Xiaomi Redmi 5A will be available for buying online via Flipkart and Mi.com/in, and offline via the company’s exclusive retail partners and Mi Home stores starting from December 7.
The Redmi 5A, launched by Xiaomi on Thursday, is an entry-level smartphone with an entry-level price of Rs 4,999. But you can also get it effectively at Rs 3,999 that is if you’re willing to simultaneously invest in a Jio 4G tariff plan as well. Jio has introduced a special tariff plan, called the better together offer, to go along with the newly launched Xiaomi Redmi 5A that will offer subscribers unlimited data, unlimited voice calls (local/STD/roaming), unlimited SMS for 28 days, alongside offering the Redmi 5A at an effective price of Rs 3,999.
The Redmi 5A has been launched at a starting price of Rs 4,999 for the base 2GB RAM/16GB storage version. The Redmi 5A will also be available in a 3GB RAM/32GB storage version that will cost buyers in India Rs 6,999. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A will be available for buying online via Flipkart and Mi.com/in, and offline via the company’s exclusive retail partners and Mi Home stores starting from December 7, the company has announced.
The Rs 4,999 price tag for the 2GB RAM/16GB storage version will however be applicable for a limited period (50 lakh units) only. The Redmi 5A 2GB RAM/16GB storage version will thereafter be available for Rs 5,999, the company added.
Jio has introduced a special Rs 199 tariff plan to go along with the Xiaomi Redmi 5A. The special Rs 199 Jio tariff plan will offer subscribers unlimited data (28GB 4G data at high speed, with 1GB daily limit), unlimited voice calls (local/STD/roaming) and unlimited SMS for 28 days.
Here is what potential subscribers/buyers will need to do in order to get the Xiaomi Redmi 5A at an effective price of Rs 3,999:
— Opt for Jio’s Rs 199 tariff plan alongside the Redmi 5A and make 12 months of continuous recharge with the Rs 199 plan.
— Potential subscribers/buyers will get cashback vouchers worth Rs 1,000 in the form of 10 vouchers of Rs 100 denomination immediately at the end of 12 months. These vouchers will be credited to their account and will be visible under My Vouchers in MyJio app.

— These vouchers can be redeemed, one at a time, against recharges of Rs 309 and above plans and against Rs 201 and above data add-ons, via MyJio app before November 30,2019.
In short, those looking to get the Redmi 5A at an effective price of Rs 3,999 will need to invest in a Jio 4G tariff plan to begin with, and the cashback that they receive will also have to be spent on a future Jio 4G tariff plan.
Xiaomi further notes that the offer will be applicable for phones sold and 1st recharge done from December 5,2017 to November 30,2018. Also the special Rs 199 plan will be available for the customer’s first 12 months only meaning the tariff plan will cease to exist for that customer post the said period.
The Redmi 5A is successor to the Redmi 4A and retains much of its predecessor’s hardware set as also its ultra-affordable price tag. It comes with an all-plastic body — like the Redmi 4A — with a smooth metallic finish on the back and will be available in as many as three colours:Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold. Just like the Redmi 4A, the Redmi 5A also does not ship with a fingerprint scanner.
In terms of hardware specs, the Redmi 5A comes with a 5-inch HD IPS display with a 720p resolution. It is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with Adreno 308 GPU, up to 3GB RAM and up to 32GB of internal memory which is further expandable by up to 128GB via a micro-SD card slot. The dual-SIM phones runs Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 out-of-the-box and supports 4G LTE (VoLTE-ready) connectivity.
On the camera front the Redmi 5A comes with a 13-megapixel camera on the rear with f/2.2 aperture along with Phase Detection Autofocus and an LED flash. On the front you get a 5-megapixel snapper. The phone is backed by a 3,000mAh battery which is non-removable and is claimed to offer up to a whopping 8-days of battery life on stand-by on a single charge.
