„For a 17-year-old kid that just got shot, it’s just crazy how strong of a person he was being.“
Just before class began Tuesday at Marshall County High School, Daniel Austin, a student known as „Dan the Man,“ was giving out high-fives, just as he does every day.
„As he was doing that he got shot, and he literally didn’t see it,“ Austin’s brother Shane Story said.
Austin had been shot in the arm. He was one of many students that suffered gunshot wounds in a shooting at Marshall County High School that left two 15-year-old students dead.
Story said a teacher and another student picked Austin up, put him in a car and rushed him to a nearby hospital.
„It just scared the hell out of me,“ Story said. „He got shot in the arm and I heard that his arm might be amputated. There is a 90 percent chance he’s going to keep his arm now, which I’m grateful for.“
Story spoke with his younger brother, who competes in Special Olympics bowling and basketball, just before he was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
„He was just like, ‚Be strong bro,‘ and I was just like, ‚Whenever you’re done with this I want to see you for the whole next week, and I want to hang out with you,'“ Story said. „I was just so scared. I just want to see him.“
