Days Gone will be present at this year’s Game Developers Conference, where the developers will discuss the Freaker horde AI utilized in the upcoming horror game.
At this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC), which is slated to take place at the Moscone Conference Center in San Francisco from March 19 to March 23, Days Gone developers will discuss, among other things, the Zombie Horde AI. Considering this game is arguably one of the most exciting PS4 exclusives of 2018, fans may be eagerly awaiting information about the action-adventure survival horror game.
The GDC will host a summit where Days Gone AI lead Darren Chisum and senior staff programmer Tobias Karrison will discuss various topics such as unit spawning methods, AI interaction, AI behavior, and squad formation. A description of the AI summit is below:
“This talk looks at the AI and gameplay components used to create the dynamic and interactive open world of Days Gone. We will cover some of the different AI units, and how they interact with one another in the Freak-O-System. We will also describe some of the methods used to spawn units and content into the world in a way that improves the player’s experience. In addition, we will go into detail on how the human AI units form squads, and calculate a Front Line to help define the combat area, and choose tactical locations. Our squares are themselves a type of AI entity, and can identify situations, based on unit and squad Confidence, and assign Roles to each unit.”
While Chisum, who has previously discussed unique mission development, is talking about AI behavior, Graham Aldridge, the lead graphics programmer at Sony Bend, will be discussing the use of screen space shadows to get the most out of shadow details. This programming session is described as a “talk [that] will introduce an algorithm to generate the high quality, high-performance screen space shadows developed for the PlayStation 4 title Days Gone.”
In other words, GDC will host a couple of sessions and talks that will provide valuable insight into the world of Days Gone. Considering this is the first intellectual property developed by this studio since Syphon Filter in 1999, many gamers may be clamoring to know more.
With GDC set to occur in about two months, its possible more information will be made available about Days Gone before then, but at least some information is on the way. Information about Days Gone, which is also one of the most anticipated horror games for 2018, may become available before then, as a release date announcement hopefully nears.
Days Gone is scheduled to release exclusively for PlayStation 4 sometime in 2018
