Despite rescue efforts, resident dies in Northern Michigan house fire

The fire happened Thursday, Jan. 24, in Grand Traverse County.
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI – Police say a resident died in a house fire early Thursday, Jan. 25.
A neighbor and sheriff’s deputy used a ladder in an effort to reach the victim on the second story of the house but were pushed back by flames.
Metro Fire Department and police were called around 4:10 a.m. to a report of a fire at a Garfield Township home.
Witnesses said they heard noises coming from the house next door then saw flames. A witness saw the victim in the second-floor window.
The neighbor and sheriff’s deputy used a ladder to try to reach the victim „but unfortunately due to the fire’s extreme condition were unable to do so,“ the Sheriff’s Department said.
Police and firefighters are at the scene investigating.
Police are awaiting an autopsy to identify the victim.
