HMD Global, the Finnish company with license to sell Nokia-branded smartphones, is set to launch its 2018 smartphone lineup at MWC 2018 next month. One of the top launches at the event is expected to be the flagship Nokia 9 with thin bezel design, but the showstopper could be the Nokia 10 with penta-camera setup at the back. If rumors are anything to go by, HMD Global is anticipated to launch Nokia 9, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018) for global markets and 4G variant of Nokia 3310 at the event. However, it is also believed to show its optics partners Zeiss‘ penta-camera technology on a prototype device. Some reports originating from China suggest that device could well be termed as Nokia 10 when it goes on sale. While Nokia 10 has only appeared in a leaked Snapdragon 845 device list and few schematics, there is no concrete evidence yet of the device. Ahead of the announcement, Nokia 10 has once again appeared in the form of a detailed sketch of the back panel of the device. The source of the sketch is said to be industry insider who claims the renders are based on information as well as the mobile multi-lens camera solution patent owned by Zeiss. The leak describes that the mobile multi-lens camera solution employs an array of additional lenses with different focal lengths and are mounted on a rotating lens base. The whole setup is described to sit between the main camera sensor and a normal fixed lens. The source claims this whole setup will be housed within the round camera module seen on the back of the device. The lenses will rotate around and reposition themselves on top of the main camera in the middle of the module. The leak also claims that the Nokia 10’s primary camera will be complemented by a secondary lens but it is not clear whether it will act as a telephoto lens or offer wider field of view to produce images with shallow depth of field. There are already devices in the market offering multi-lens solution with Light L16 being the most notable for its 16 lens setup. There are also rumors doing the rounds that Huawei will launch its next P-series flagship with triple lens solution to enhance imaging. In terms of specifications, the Nokia 10 is said to sport a display with 18:9 aspect ratio and will be powered by Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. It is expected to feature a 3D glass back that we will first see on the upcoming Nokia 9 smartphone. Nokia 10 or the underlying camera tech could be showcased at MWC next month but the smartphone is not likely to launch before IFA 2018 in September.
