One of the biggest days in professional sports is right around the corner, and the 2018 Super Bowl has huge commercials on the way. In fact, some of them are already out, because major brands won’t pass this opportunity up (do they ever?). Stars like Tiffany Haddish, Keanu Reeves, Danny DeVito, Matt Damon, and Missy Elliot are bringing their A-game off the field and on screen in ads this year. There sadly won’t be an *NSYNC reunion at Super Bowl, but the entertaining commercials are there to support you. And here’s everything we know about 2018 Super Bowl advertisements so far.
Super Bowl staples like Budweiser, Pepsi, and Skittles are returning to the big game this year and are amping up their signature branding more than ever. But, according to AdWeek, a handful of brands have opted out of the Super Bowl, even though 111.3 million viewers watched the show last year. The price of the ads, reports Business Insider, has spiked from $5 million to $7.7 million for the 30 seconds, and could be a contributing factor as to why companies like Buick, GoDaddy, Wonderful Pistachios, Fiji, Clorox, and Snickers are bowing out of the Super Bowl spotlight in 2018.
Fans might also be surprised to learn that massive digital brands YouTube and Google won’t be airing commercials on their screens this year. (Perhaps this is because Google’s 2017 Super Bowl ad accidentally set off tons of Google Homes?) That said, tons of brands are coming in for the kill. Here are companies who have already given previews of their upcoming Super Bowl ads.
Matt Damon is partnering with Stella Artois on behalf of Water.org, which he co-founded. The actor encourages viewers to drink with purpose, as every Stella 12-pack purchase will help provide clean water to developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Morgan Freeman, Missy Elliott, Peter Dinklage, and Busta Rhymes team up in PepsiCo ads for new products Mountain Dew Ice and Doritos Blaze. Their tongue twister showdown will take place on Super Bowl night.
David Schwimmer stars in four bizarre Skittles commercials in which he looks almost unrecognizable. The brand teased the ads in the days leading up to the game, and the internet is super confused by them.
Danny DeVito bathes in chocolate in this M&M’s ad teaser, because why wouldn’t he?
In its teaser, Hyundai hints that its Super Bowl ad will „surprise millions“ after surprising three war heroes in its commercial last year.
Keanu Reeves does some deep thinking in Squarespace’s ad „Domain.“
Chris Elliot gets rainbow-y and the right amount of weird in this Avocados from Mexico teaser ad.
This brand’s ads are known for tugging heartstrings, and it’ll likely do so again with its commercial „Stand By You,“ about delivering clean drinking water.
This year, the car company partnered with Marvel, specifically Black Panther, to promote the Lexus LS 500 F Sport.
Febreze’s upcoming ads are for those whose „beep“ don’t stink.
Girls Trip breakout star Tiffany Haddish supports local businesses in Groupon’s Super Bowl ad „Who Wouldn’t.“
Bill Hader is a self-deprecating actor in Pringles‘ short Super Bowl commercial preview.
Bud Light’s wildly popular „Dilly Dilly“ ads are coming to the Super Bowl with a „trilogy“ kicked off by the „Wizard“ commercial.
TurboTax spooks audiences with its animated promotion this year.
Kia’s teaser „Feel Something Again“ stars racing icon Emerson Fittipaldi.
If you’re ready for more, then you’re in luck. According to AdWeek, these are just a handful of the brands that will be advertised during the Super Bowl, even if the rest haven’t released any previews yet. The brands reportedly include: Paramount and Universal (who will be airing soon-to-be-revealed film trailers), Monster (with Iggy Azalea), Persil ProClean, Hulu, Verizon, Toyota, Kraft, Intuit, and Coke.
Basically, many more shameless ads to shamelessly watch are on the way. Dilly, dilly, indeed.
