PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — Marcel Hirscher, the Austrian ski racer who on Sunday won his second gold medal of the 2018 Winter Olympics with a victory in the men’s giant slalom, sounds eager to get home — and to get some European cuisine.
“Sorry friends of Asia, but now I can’t see rice anymore,’’ he said with a smile at his post-race news conference on Day 9 of the Games.
Hirscher apparently arrived here 2½ weeks ago, as he added, “Two and half weeks of rice for a European guy pretty much (is enough).’’
But don’t expect Hirscher to leave any earlier than Thursday, when he’ll be favored to win the men’s slalom. He won his first gold of the Pyeongchang Games on Feb. 11 with a victory in the men’s combined.
The Closing Ceremonies are set for Feb. 25.
