Square Enix Collective has announced an official release date for their upcoming game Fear Effect Sedna.
Square Enix Collective has announced an official release date for its upcoming game Fear Effect Sedna. It will be released for the PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC on March 6th, 2018.
Fear Effect Sedna is a real-time tactical action game, featuring the team of Hana, Rain, Deke and Glas returning for a brand new adventure taking place four years after the events of the first game. This game is actually the third installment in the franchise to be released after Fear Effect and the prequel Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix, which were released for the original PlayStation in 2000 and 2001 respectively.
The story of Fear Effect Sedna begins with protagonist Hana and her partner Rain in Hong Kong while Deke has gone his separate ways after Glas returned to the US. When Hana accepts a seemingly small mission in France for a suspiciously shadowy organization, she takes it as an opportunity to visit her birthplace. Meanwhile, Deke sets out to Greenland when approached by a new client and a mysterious French agent named Axel lies in wait in France. The journey will take players as far away as the North Pole, where they will encounter Inuit legends and folklore.
Fear Effect Sedna will have up to five characters fighting various enemies in real-time isometric view. Players will have a limited field of view, as they will only be able to see a portion of the environment at any given time. Additionally, there will be plenty of puzzles in the game. For example, unlocking doors or disarming traps will require players to hack or solve brain-teasers involving Inuit symbols.
Each character will have a unique set of skills, depending on her or his personality. For instance, several of Rain’s passive skills will rely on her ability to disguise whereas Deke’s abilities will reflect his usually more brutal approach to taking on enemies. There will be combined skills, which players will only be able to trigger when the required characters are standing next to each other. The Fear Effect stress gauge will also influence the gameplay. As it gets higher, skill sets will increase in brutality and a full gauge will negatively impact the character’s health and behavior.
Sushee is an indie games developer based in France. They released their first game, Goetia, in 2016. Although the Fear Effect IP remains with Square Enix, Sushee was granted approval to work on a sequel. Square Enix Collective exists to help indie studios, such as lending the license of the Fear Effect IP to Sushee. Fear Effect Sedna will cost $19.99 when it releases for the PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC on March 6th, 2018.
