Here’s the latest news about Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch, from the possible release date to what to expect from the game in terms of gameplay.
2018 looks to be a solid year for Nintendo Switch gamers, with a roster of exciting games including a Yoshi-themed title all planned for release. While that’s impressive enough, a recent rumour suggests that Nintendo is also planning to launch Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo Switch this year.
Though nothing has been officially confirmed by Nintendo, Industry insider Emily Rogers claims that Super Smash Bros is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch, with a potential release later this year. Will it be enough to make it one of the best Nintendo Switch games of the year ?
In a post on ResetEra, Rogers shared (admittedly light) details about the game, which we go into in more detail below. While the insider provided valuable information about the upcoming game, she couldn’t specify whether it’d be marketed as a “deluxe definitive edition port” like MarioKart 8 Deluxe, a “half-sequel” or a “full sequel”.
Here’s everything we know about Super Smash Bros for Nintendo Switch, from the possible release date to what to expect from the game in terms of gameplay.
So, when are we likely to see the Super Smash Bros port for the Nintendo Switch come to market? According to Emily Rogers’ leak, the game should be both announced and released this year, although it’s not expected to be released until much later on in 2018.
It’s probably also worth pointing out that Nintendo has a decent-sized presence at E3 2018 in June, so we imagine that Nintendo will announce the game at E3 and release it in September or October, just in time for the company to cash in on the Christmas sales.
We will, of course, update this section with more information as soon as we receive it, so head back soon for the latest release date news.
If you couldn’t already tell, Super Smash Bros, like much of what is developed by Nintendo, is expected to be a platform-exclusive.
After all, the Nintendo-exclusive game is already available on the Wii U and 3DS so the company (probably) won’t feel the need to re-release the older games alongside the Switch variant.
So, what should we expect from the Nintendo Switch port of the hugely popular Wii U and 3DS games? Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo Switch will allegedly offer the base game available on older consoles along with a bunch of new content to make it appealing enough for Nintendo gamers to re-buy.
We imagine that Nintendo will go down the route of MarioKart 8 Deluxe and will offer the standard base game along with a handful of changes – be it a new game mode or a larger roster of characters – and market it as a ‘Deluxe’ version of the original game.
This theory is backed up by Emily Rogers, who claims that Nintendo has “added brand new content” alongside re-working “some of the existing Wii U/3DS content”. Although with that being said, every Super Smash Bros game has built upon the previous game while adding new characters and elements and Nintendo classes them as new entries to the franchise, so it could be marketed as a sequel to the older version of the game.
While it involves a little bit of guesswork right now, we imagine that we’re not too far away from an official announcement of the game. Of course, we’ll be adding the latest Super Smash Bros news to this article as we receive it, so make sure you check back soon for the latest Super Smash Bros for Switch news.
