The Fallout 4 Mod that had been in development has been put to stop by the developers due to major legal concerns. The mod was Capital Wasteland project which aimed to put the Fallout 3 into Fallout 4. Unfortunately reusing the audios from the previous titiles could have raised red flags. So the mod has been halted.
The mod that sought out to put Fallout 3 into Fallout 4 has been abandoned. Leaving many fans in discomfort and disarray. The reason behind Fallout 4 Mod being abandoned were serious legal issues.
The mod was Capital Wasteland project that aimed to put the game Fallout 3, in its entirety, into Fallout 4 engine. Which was not only exciting for the developers but for the fans as well. Exclusively for Fallout fans, this was something that looked promising.
However the developers have been forced to drop this mod, they have been asked to stop working on it right away and that they have.
The reason being for the legal issue is, the fact that this mod would have reused audio and voice-overs that may have brought a lot of complexity in the legality of that mod. In fact, it would have created a legal minefield through which the company may not have survived. That is if they had gone further with it.
Now that they have dropped the Fallout 4 Mod, their legal problems may not become an issue. According to Bethesda the developers of the game, they have put a considerable thought into the situation and decided put a halt to this mod in order to avoid any potential trouble.
When the mod was under development, the project leader communicated with Bethesda regarding the planned method in order to implement the voice acting and other audio stuff, it became clear that the planned approach would raise serious red flags.
Based on the word by Kotaku, according to the project’s lead programmer, NafNaf_95 it was one of the most difficult decisions he had to make. It seems to be, that this was not hard for the team only, for the fans and players expecting the Fallout 3 in Fallout 4 now know that this may never be possible in the future as well, considering the complex legalities.
This is not the first time that Bethesda has had to change course due to legal concerns. If you guys remember back in 2016, Bethesda took down all plagiarized Fallout 4 Xbox One mods as well. It turned out that the creators were plagiarizing Fallout 4 Xbox One mods and had to remedy the legal concern.
We certainly hope that Bethesda stops making such mistakes over and over again, not only it casts a negative shadow on the repute of the company, it also misleads fans for long durations.
