Either you hate it or love it, display notch is the new trend in the smartphone industry. And the irony is when Apple introduced the notch on iPhone X, not everyone was too happy about it. Especially, iPhone users were quite disappointed due to the lack of home button. Little did we know then that the notch would become all rage among the Android community.
Several Android manufacturers have already made iPhone X-lookalike phones. The list not only includes the less-known brands, but some of the biggies like Huawei and Asus. Huawei’s newly launched flagships P20 and P20 Pro, Oppo F7, Vivo V9 all sport the notch. Even the upcoming OnePlus 6 will feature a display notch, OnePlus’s CEO has confirmed.
Recent reports suggest that the LG G7 will also have a design identical to the iPhone X. This means, it will have a full-screen display with a notch at the top. The speculations began after an alleged prototype of the smartphone had surfaced online.
Well, it seems like LG itself is confused. The company asked users on Reddit about their opinion on notches. Looking at the answers, it is safe to say that the notch is not as popular as OEMs tend to think. Majority of people find the notch outright disgusting, and some find it kind of aesthetically displeasing.
Interestingly, some users just want a simple top bezel like the Galaxy S9 or the LG V30. Since users know what they want, will the G7 come sans the notch? At the moment, it’s hard to answer.
LG has deleted the post, but we don’t know the reason behind their action. However, the entire thread is still available on the internet. Presumably, the South Korean tech firm didn’t expect so many negative responses to the idea of notch.
Whatever the case is, we wouldn’t want another phone that looks like the iPhone X. Instead of copying Apple blatantly, LG should better show some innovations in the design of its next flagship. Previous reports have suggested that the G7 would be developed from the scratch, and that just might be true.
