Prosecutors said the killings were „concerted“ and „calculated“ efforts.
SAGINAW, MI — All eight people charged in two 2017 homicides have been arrested and arraigned. Among them are three brothers, a stepdaughter and stepdad and a man previously shot by police.
The charges stem from the killings of 41-year-old Willie Dawson and 54-year-old Shlindrill Bonita Lewis, both in the city of Saginaw.
Dawson was gunned down Sept. 8 outside Dom’s Food Market, 2326 N. Michigan, near the Interstate 675 interchange. Lewis was shot to death Oct. 27 inside a vehicle in her driveway at 2825 Capehart in the Sheridan Park subdivision.
Prosecutors issued charges in both cases earlier this week. Saginaw County Assistant Prosecutor Trevis Ruffin said the killings were „concerted“ and „calculated“ efforts.
Those charged in the Lewis homicide:
Those charged in the Dawson homicide:
The Joneses, aside from Alexander Jones, are brothers, said Saginaw Police Detective Sgt. Matt Gerow. Alexander Jones is not related to them.
Another relation in the case: Lee is the stepdaughter of McClain, Gerow said.
Alexander Jones, the only among those charged in both homicides, was shot by a Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office deputy in 2008 after he allegedly tried to run the deputy down with a vehicle, according to previous reports .
The deputy was in the process of arresting his brother when Alexander Jones hopped in the driver’s seat and drove toward the deputy, officials previously said. He was shot in the right wrist and upper left arm.
The shooting was ruled justified.
Lee, the only one not charged with murder in the case, is accused of aiding Alexander Jones in some fashion after he allegedly killed Lewis.
She also is accused of soliciting Alexander Jones to kill two „close associates“ of hers, Ruffin previously said. The targets were not killed.
District Judge David Hoffman denied bond for all the men. Lee was given a $300,000 bond.
Those in the Lewis case will go before Hoffman at 10 a.m. March 27 for a preliminary examination. Those charged in the Dawson case are scheduled for a 2:45 p.m. preliminary examination that same day before Hoffman.
