The sheriff’s office said that both children were strapped into the car and added that evidence on the scene “indicated foul play.” The children’s mother, 20-year-old Brittany Velasquez, has been charged with two counts of murder.
Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said they would not be releasing the names of the children and added that an autopsy is being conducted. More information is expected later on Tuesday afternoon.
An online jail roster put Velasquez’s age at 21, differing from the sheriff’s statement. It was unclear which was correct.
Superior is a town of around 3,000 people and has served as the filming location for several movies.
