Pokemon GO players may be able to complete a series of research quests to trigger an encounter with the super rare pokemon Mew when the next update arrives.
Ever since the first appearance of Legendary monsters in Pokemon GO, many gamers have been wishing that there was an alternate way to encounter the monsters for those who aren’t interested in level 5 Battle Raids. So far, if you wanted a Legendary pokemon, winning a Battle Raid was pretty much the only option. It sounds like that pattern may break with the game’s first appearance of Mew.
Pokemon GO players have been trying to find Mew since the game launched and many rumors have already been debunked about ways to catch the super rare monster. Finally, it sounds like Niantic is ready to officially add Mew in the game’s next big update. Unlike previous Legendary monsters though, this one will be hidden behind a new questing mechanic, rather than a Legendary or EX Battle Raid. Niantic dances around actually saying Mew encounters will exist, but the company strongly suggests it.
Here are some of the details from the official press release…
“Niantic, Inc., and The Pokémon Company International today announced that Mew, the Mythical Psychic-Type Pokémon, will soon start appearing around the world… “Trainers can also earn one stamp per day by completing at least one Field Research task. When Trainers collect seven stamps, they can achieve a Research Breakthrough to receive even greater rewards—perhaps even an encounter with a Legendary Pokémon!”
It sounds like the Mew encounter will may be triggered by a seven day streak of quest completions. This wouldn’t be surprising, consider that Pokemon GO has already made the seven day streak an important milestone for other rewards.
One interesting thing is that the press release doesn’t mention whether the encounter will be a Battle Raid invite or just a regular encounter. Hopefully this one leaves Battle Raids out of it, but there’s no way to know for sure just yet.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for the update and will post more details and guides as soon as it arrives. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
Pokemon GO is available now is select regions on Android and iOS devices.
