Touchscreen issues triggering Samsung investigation
While this is the typical response that a company gives when issues are being reported on its devices, the number of Galaxy S9 buyers discovering dead spots on their screens is growing. Samsung, however, says that it’s looking into the problem and recommends everyone to get in touch with the company directly.
“At Samsung, customer satisfaction is core to our business and we aim to deliver the best possible experience. We are looking into a limited number of reports of Galaxy S9/S9+ touchscreen responsiveness issues. We are working with affected customers and investigating. We encourage any customer with questions to contact us directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG,” the firm says.
Basically, what happens on impacted devices is that the touchscreen is suffering from what are being described as dead spots. This means the screen is no longer responding to touch in certain points, which can be located pretty much anywhere on the display.
Some users claim that the dead spots mostly occur in the lower part of the screen, and a few said they only affect certain keys of the virtual keyboards. This obviously makes it impossible for anyone to type, regardless of the method used for this (swiping or standard taps).
It appears that defective units brought in stores with such symptoms are being exchanged immediately by Samsung staff, so the best you can do right now is contact the company and schedule an appointment to have your device inspected by an engineer.
It remains to be seen how Samsung solves this problem, but by the looks of things, it’s a hardware issue and replacing phones, or at least the display, is the only way to go.
