New build released to Skip Ahead insiders
Windows 10 build 17623 comes with some pretty big changes, and one of them is the introduction of support for the High-Efficiency File Format (HEIF). The same feature is also part of the latest Redstone 4 update, and it offers better image quality and new capabilities mixed with advanced compression.
The other big change is the introduction of a new way to safely remove external GPUs connected to a Windows 10 system via a Thunderbolt 3 port. Windows 10 will display the apps that are running on external GPUs, giving you better control in order to prevent data loss.
“To safely remove an external graphics card, go to the ‘Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media’ icon and click to eject your GPU. If there are applications running on your external GPU, then a dialog will appear with the applications that are currently running. Close the applications to safely remove the device. If there are no applications currently running on your external graphics device then no dialog will appear and you can safely detach your external GPU,” Microsoft explains.
This Redstone 5 build also introduces the new privacy experience that Microsoft announced a few weeks ago, letting users configure their privacy experience in a more effective manner. The same options are available in Redstone 4 build 17115 and will be part of the final version of the update launching next month.
Microsoft has also implemented Windows Defender Application Guard improvements borrowed from previous builds, as well as updates for Windows Defender System Guard to boost security.
You can check out the entire changelog in the box after the jump and install the new build right away if you are part of the Skip Ahead ring.
