In a teaser that was cleverly placed right at the end of the Xiaomi Mi TV 4 series, it appears that the company might be unveiling the Redmi 5 in India very soon. Recently, the company officially launched the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro, two very premium Android smartphones with impressive internals being sold at very competitive prices.
The Redmi 5 could act as a launch that could fill up the pricing gap, giving mobile computing access to potentially more users since this device will carry a more affordable pricing structure. Since the upcoming phone will get less powerful specifications, it will carry a smaller price tag too. If you want to experience better performance, it is recommended that you increase your budget accordingly.
The Redmi 5 is armed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, which brings less computing power to the table when compared against the Snapdragon 600 series. It is running MIUI 9 on top of Android Nougat but we’re pretty sure that an Android Oreo update is going to be around the corner.
The phone has a decent 5.7-inch display with a 1,440 x 720 resolution. The resolution might be lower than the Full HD+ resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels, but that will turn out to be a blessing in disguise. For one thing, fewer pixels mean that the Redmi 5 will consume less power, resulting in a higher battery life for the user.
Not just this, but we could be seeing RAM variants starting from 2GB and going as high as 4GB. The 2GB RAM version could get 16GB of onboard storage while the 3GB and 4GB RAM models will feature 32GB of internal memory. There will be an expandable storage slot so do not believe that you will run out of space anytime soon.
For those that are all about the camera business, the Redmi 5 will have a 12MP rear camera that will be accompanied with the usual additions. This will include an aperture of f/2.2, PDAF, LED flash and more. At the front, you will get a 5MP camera and powering everything is a 3,300mAh battery.
Are you excited for the launch? If yes, then mark your calendars for March 14.
