Saturday was all about Queen Bey at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
Just like last week, Saturday at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival could have been renamed Bey-day because it was all about the anticipation for Beyoncé at the Empire Polo Club.
Would she bring back Jay Z? What about Destiny’s Child? Well, yes. Her show was just as much of a spectacle as the Weekend 1 version. And Weekend 2 fans got another special guest, but there was one big noticeable difference.
The Beyhive started camping out early in front of her stage to get a good spot to see her, and some matched their outfits to what Beyoncé wore Weekend 1 .
Coachella is a very fashionable event. We tried to find some of the most fashionable in the masses and take their portraits.
Since it was Beychella, we asked crowd members what their Beyoncé gateway song was for a special photo project .
And while we watched Beyoncé close it down, that wasn’t the only thing we saw yesterday. Check out the photos of the performers we caught on Saturday, including Jessie Ware, who stepped in on the main stage after Wizkid wasn’t able to make it.
Nile Rodgers and Chic brought fans up to the stage for set-ender “Good Times,” which also had some “Rapper’s Delight” thrown in like last week and it was just as awesome.
X Japan, which put on a blazing rock show while Beyoncé was on the main stage, brought out some more big stars, with Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit and Richard Fortus from Guns N’ Roses returning again after a stint last week as well as new addition Marilyn Manson.
Among the other musical highlights was First Aid Kit, which touched on the #MeToo movement from the stage after their song “You Are the Problem Here,” and Klara Soderberg addressed the crowd directly.
“And women, I hope that because we’re talking about this, girls, ladies — that you feel empowered, and that you feel a little less uncomfortable about speaking out when you are uncomfortable,” she said.
When we weren’t taking in the music, we took in some of the sights, and eats, and drinks of Coachella.
The festival has a new whiskey bar, but you have to find it first. A lot of people cooled off in the new air-conditioned ice cream shop, too.
And since it was Record Store Day, we swung by the on-site record shop to see what people were picking up, too.
