Lewis, founder of the San Francisco pop rock band, announced he has developed an ear condition that makes it impossible for him to sing, according to a statement released on Friday, April 13.
GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Huey Lewis and The News has canceled it 2018 concert tour, including a performance scheduled for July 8 at the Frederik Meijer Gardens Amphitheatre.
Lewis, founder of the San Francisco pop rock band, announced he has developed an ear condition that makes it impossible for him to sing, according to a statement released on Friday, April 13.
„We wish Huey a speedy recovery and are looking forward to having him back at the Meijer Gardens Amphitheater again in the future,“ Meijer Gardens said in a statement announcing the cancellation of the band’s appearance.
„Two and a half months ago, just before a show in Dallas, I lost most of my hearing,“ Lewis said in a statement. „Although I can still hear a little, one on one, and on the phone, I can’t hear music well enough to sing.
„I’ve been to the House Ear Institute, the Stanford Ear Institute, and the Mayo Clinic, hoping to find an answer. The doctors believe I have Meniere’s disease and have agreed that I can’t perform until I improve.“
Lewis and his band have been popular performers in West Michigan since his band’s heyday in the 1980s and 1990s. Their shows at Meijer Gardens in 2011,2012 and 2017 were sold out.
Tickets for the Meijer Gardens‘ concert series will go on sale to members from Saturday, April 28 through May 11. Ticket sales for the general public will begin on May 12.
