A 27-year-old Ecorse man was charged Tuesday in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of an 8-year-old Detroit boy.
Stephen Williams was arraigned in 36th District Court on one count each of reckless driving causing death, operating with a suspended license, causing death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault resulting in death. Bond was set at $500,000.
Williams allegedly struck Brandyn Starks around 5 p.m. Thursday on Fort Street near Miami on the city’s southwest side. The child was pulling his wagon to a nearby park when he was struck by a dark blue Chevy Tahoe driven by a male who ran a red light, witnesses said.
Police said Williams fled the scene. He was arrested Saturday.
Police said Brandyn’s parents were searching for him after he left his home two blocks away from the accident.
Williams is due back in court May 1. His preliminary examination is scheduled for May 8.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for funeral arrangements.
