OnePlus recently rolled out Open Beta updates to a slew of smartphones such as OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3T, and OnePlus 3. The company has recalled these smartphones as the update appears to have brought in excessive battery drain to these smartphones.
OnePlus is one of the few smartphone manufacturers to push timely updates to its devices. Recently, the OnePlus 5T and other smartphones from the company received open beta updates rolling out new features and improvements. The company seems to have pushed some buggy open beta updates to these devices. We day so as OnePlus has recalled the open beta updates for several models.
The beta updates are non-final builds and usually have bugs and issues but used to test the new features before the rollout of the stable update. These beta updates are not meant to be installed on the models those are used as a daily driver as there could be some bugs in them. Usually, open beta builds are not recalled and this move by OnePlus suggests that some serious problems were discovered in these updates, claims an Android Police report.
Notably, OnePlus has recalled the Open Beta 5 rolled out to the OnePlus 5T, Open Beta 7 rolled out to the OnePlus 5, Open Beta 33 rolled out to the OnePlus 3 and Open Beta 24 rolled out to the OnePlus 3T. Given that the open beta builds are not the final ones and prone to include bugs, OnePlus cautions to those who are interested in trying these builds stating „This is beta software“ while they try to install the same in their smartphones.
According to the posts found on the OnePlus user forum, these recalled open beta updates have a negative effect on the battery life of the smartphones. One of the users has stated that the beta software has made his phone turn warm to touch even when the screen is turned off. And, he claims that for two consecutive nights, the battery life dropped by 20% for overnight. Eventually, we believe that these open beta builds have resulted in excessive battery drain. Though there were other issues reported by the users, the battery drain issue seems to be prevalent among all devices.
Though OnePlus has recalled these open beta updates, there is no word from the company regarding when the issues will be fixed and these updates will be rolled out to the users of the OnePlus 5T, 5,3T and 3 smartphones.
