Pokemon GO players who are trying to complete the Special Research quest to catch Mew will have to catch 10 Ghost-type Pokemon. Here is where to find them.
Pokemon GO‘s Special Research quest to discover and catch Mew is quite the challenge, requiring players to complete difficult tasks like catching a Ditto and evolving Magikarp into Gyarados. Another objective that players seem to get stuck on is Catching 10 Ghost-type Pokemon, but there are some things to keep in mind that may make it a little easier.
Before we get into that, though, it’s important that players take note of all the different ghost-type Pokemon currently available in Pokemon GO:
While this is mostly based on anecdotal evidence, it does seem as though ghost-type Pokemon seem to spawn more frequently at churches and urban areas. Because of this, players on the hunt for ghost-type Pokemon in Pokemon GO may want to head to a city for their Pokemon hunting.
Ghost-type Pokemon are also more likely to spawn at night. In fact, some ghost-type Pokemon seem to only spawn at night, like Dusclops and Banette. For Pokemon GO, “night” is considered to be between the hours of 8pm and 9am, though the exact time may vary by region. In any case, once it’s night time in the app, players should find it easier to find ghost-type Pokemon.
Something else to take into account when searching for ghost-type Pokemon in Pokemon GO is the weather system. When it’s foggy out, ghost-type Pokemon are boosted by the weather and will appear more frequently. So if it happens to be particularly foggy out (and this is recognized in-game), players may want to take some time to go Pokemon hunting.
Players could also catch ghost-type Pokemon by forcing them to spawn as part of Field Research quest rewards, or by defeating them in raids. At the time of this writing, there are four ghost-type Pokemon appearing in raids, Duskull, Gengar, Sableye, and Shuppet, and all of them should be beatable with a squad of three or more.
Hunting down 10 ghost-type Pokemon may be time-consuming and one of the more difficult Special Research tasks, but it can certainly be done with enough patience. To speed up the process a bit, players may want to look into the Pokemon GO community in their area, as there are often Facebook and Discord groups dedicated to keeping track of things like Pokemon nests that could make finding 10 ghost-types significantly easier.
Finally, there are a couple of restrictions to keep in mind before Pokemon GO players begin searching for 10 ghost-type Pokemon. Unfortunately, hatching a ghost-type Pokemon out of an egg doesn’t count, and evolving a ghost-type into a new form doesn’t further one’s progress either.
With these tips and restrictions in mind, players should be able to make catching 10 ghost-type Pokemon in Pokemon GO an easier process.
Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
