Caesars Windsor strike continues as workers reject agreement

The Caesars complex has been closed since April 5. The company says the damage „is immeasurable.“
Caesars Windsor casino’s unionized employees on Friday voted down a tentative agreement that would have ended a strike that has gone on for more than six weeks.
A news release from Caesars said 53% of union membership voted not to ratify.
“This is unfortunate,“ said Kevin Laforet, regional president of Caesars Entertainment. „We are incredibly disappointed in the outcome of today’s vote, which was fully endorsed by both the Unifor National and Local 444 Bargaining teams.
„The agreement is more than fair and sustainable,“ he said. „I personally want to apologize for the continued inconvenience this causes our customers. The long-term effect on our business goes well beyond revenue loss and is immeasurable.”

As a result of the vote, Caesars Windsor unionized employees continue to be on strike. The property will remain closed to the public until an agreement is reached and ratified.
Caesars said there are no plans right now to return to the bargaining table.
The entire Caesars Windsor complex has been closed since the late evening of April 5, after nearly 60% of union members voted to reject an earlier three-year tentative contract.
That proposal called for increasing average wage rates by 9.4% and signing bonuses of $1,150 for full-time workers and $900 for part-time workers.
Two of the three Detroit casinos have seen an increase in gambling revenues since the latest Caesars strike.
