A fresh fan theory suggests that Hideo Kojima’s forthcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, Death Stranding, potentially contains a setting in the country of Iceland.
Several days ago, Hideo Kojima took to his official Twitter account to share a screenshot of moss on rocks from his forthcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Death Stranding, leading many online sleuths to begin scrutinizing the picture for clues or hints about what’s to come for the game. Now, it seems as if some fans have formulated a plausible theory that the image in question indicates that the title has an Icelandic setting.
As seen in the tweet below from the Death Stranding fan Rafael Andrade, he posits that the mosses on top of some lava fields in Iceland exhibit some striking resemblances to the screenshot of moss on rocks that was shared by Kojima. What’s more is that the Twitter user known as BlueHarvey compares a picture of a real-life crater in the Nordic island country to a giant divot depicted within one of the game’s cinematic trailers, lending further credibility to the Iceland setting theory.
Interestingly enough, Kojima himself actually retweeted Andrade’s findings, which undoubtedly caused many to wonder if the director was acknowledging the theory involving Death Stranding having an Icelandic setting as being true. Of course, this could just be Kojima admiring fans’ dedication to figuring out the mysteries behind the game, but as some have pointed out, this isn’t the only instance of the developer sounding off about moss. In fact, while working on Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, he took a location scouting trip to Iceland, and tweeted a picture of moss, which could have served as an initial inspiration for Death Stranding.
All things considered, with Kojima having yet to officially offer up an answer regarding the setting for Death Stranding, much less any concrete gameplay details about the forthcoming title, all one can do right now is continue to wonder what secrets the game holds. With this being the case, it seems as if the director is content to keep playing all of his cards regarding the project close to the vest, leaving fans to speculate what all of the information shared thus far means. After all, Kojima did state shortly after Death Stranding‘s E3 2016 reveal that the “‘game’ has already begun”.
Death Stranding is currently in development for PlayStation 4.
