Chinese brand Honor seems to be on a roll. After the launch of its flagship – the Honor 10 – and budget offerings in India, the company has now announced that it’l be holding an event in Beijing on June 6th. The handset maker is expected to launch new Honor Play series smartphones alongside the new Honor 9i at the event. The new Honor 9i must not be confused with the Honor 9i ( review) that was launched in India last year. As per the rumours, the new launch comes with a spec sheet that is identical to that of the Huawei P20 Lite ( first impressions). As for the Honor Play series, nothing is known at the moment except for the fact that it will flaunt AI capabilities and a breakthrough technology.
Coming to the new Honor 9i, the smartphone is expected to be the LLD-AL30 and LLD-AL20 model that has been spotted on TENAA recently. The handset is expected to ship with a 5.84-inch notch display with 19:9 aspect ratio and a full HD+ screen resolution. The display will reportedly get a layer of 2.5D curved glass. According to the leaks, the performance of the handset is handled by an octa-core Kirin 659 SoC backed by MaliT830-MP2 GPU and 4GB RAM. As for the storage, the brand is expected to offer the new model in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB variants with support for microSD cards up to 256GB. For security, the handset is expected to come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
In the optics department, the new Honor 9i is tipped to offer a 13-megapixel primary camera accompanied by a secondary 2-megapixel shooter on the rear panel. For selfies, it is likely to come with a 16-megapixel camera. As for the software, the smartphone seems to be running the EMUI 8.0 interface on top of Android 8.0 Oreo. The handset is speculated to be powered by a 3,000mAh battery.
The new Honor 9i is likely to come in three colour options – black, blue and gray. We will bring you more updates on June 6th as and when the smartphone goes official.
