The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE got unveiled a couple of hours ago, becoming the first Snapdragon 710 smartphone in the world right now. The device now gets compared to the premium phones from Nokia and HMD Global, the Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 6.1 .
The expected price of the Mi 8 SE is Rs. 18,999, making it a decent device running a Snapdragon 710. The Nokia 7 Plus is slightly more expensive than the latest smartphone that got announced, with its lowest price in India coming in at Rs. 25,799. The Nokia 6.1 is the cheaper versions of the entire comparison, with its highest variant price in India being Rs.18,999.
The Mi 8 SE gets the best design out of all three smartphones. It has a 5.88-inch AMOLED display, full HD+ resolution and features a notch. The rest of the smartphones do not feature a notch. The Nokia 7 Plus has an 18:9 aspect ratio with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 and comes with a 6-inch IPS LCD display. The Nokia 6.1 has a 1920 x 1080 display with a 5.5-inch LCD.
The Mi 8 SE is the most powerful smartphone in this comparison because of the Snapdragon 710. The chipset is running an octa-core CPU configuration using Qualcomm’s custom Kryo architecture (2 x Kryo 360 Gold running at 2.2GHz + 6 x Kryo 360 Silver running at 1.7GHz). The Nokia 7 Plus comes in at second place thanks to the Snapdragon 660, while the Nokia 6.1 feature a Snapdragon 630.
The Mi 8 SE also comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Nokia 7 Plus gets 4GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage while also getting dual-SIM features and expandable storage (this will use the second SIM card slot). The Nokia 6.1 gets 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage and 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage.
All three smartphones come with premium bodies, with Mi 8 SE having more glass than the remaining three devices. For connectivity, both wireless and wired, surprisingly all three handsets get the same features. This will range from 4G with VoLTE support, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. All three smartphones also get dual-SIM options.
The Mi 8 SE and the Nokia 7 Plus are the only two smartphones in this comparison that come with a dual-camera combo, while the remaining Nokia 6.1 come with single camera lenses at the front and back. The Mi 8 SE has a 12 + 5MP camera combination that is accompanied with features like AI, dual phase detection autofocus and 1.4um pixel size. AI Beautify and AI selfie portrait mode also come with the smartphone with a front camera resolution of 20MP.
The Nokia 7 Plus gets a 12 + 12MP dual-camera setup at the back with ZEISS optics, 2x optical zoom, and 4K video capture support. The front-facing 16MP snapper comes with a f/2.0 aperture and ZEISS lens. The rear cameras on the Nokia 6.1 or Nokia 6 (2018) is a single 16MP shooter and come with things like PDAF, ZEISS optics, and a dual-tone flash. The phone is also capable of 4K video recording at 30fps, while the 8MP fixed-focus camera with a f/2.0 aperture is also present.
The Mi 8 SE has a 3120mAh battery, while the Nokia 6.1 has a 3000mAh capacity. The Nokia 7 Plus reigns supreme with the biggest battery capacity out of all the devices thanks to its larger 3800mAh capacity. The Mi 8 SE is running MIUI 10 on top of Android Oreo 8.1 and it will get gestures that are similar to Android P.
The Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 7 Plus is part of the Android One family, running a less bloated version of Android and comes extremely close to stock Android. They will be upgraded to Android P in the future as well.
If you want the best possible performance out of all the three smartphones, getting the Mi 8 SE is undoubtedly your best option out there as it also features latest fancy features like iPhone X like 3D face recognition, in-display fingerprint scanner. But that can only be done once the phone officially launches in India. The second-most powerful smartphone is the Nokia 7 Plus but you should have a big budget, followed by the Nokia 6.1.
The Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 7 Plus are running Android One, so it will have a less cluttered UI than the remaining three devices, and it will receive Android OS and security updates much faster.
So you should definitely pick the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE among these three but if you are in a hurry to buy a smartphone, the remaining two smartphones are also good options.
