Is this an error or it is really happening?
A Microsoft support page seems to indicate that Windows 10 April 2018 Update for Windows phones is a real thing and it could be released just like the PC version on May 8.
While this is surprising, to say the least, the said page provides instructions on how to get the April 2018 Update on supported Windows phones, though for the time being, it’s not known what models are supported and not.
We’ve tried checking for updates on a Lumia 950 XL, an HP Elite X3, and an Alcatel IDOL 4S and no updates were available. If this is going to change on May 8 or not still remains to be seen.
The link that Microsoft provides to learn more about the supported phones points to information for the Fall Creators Update and the Creators Update, the last updates for Windows 10 Mobile devices.
“Windows 10 Mobile automatically downloads and installs updates when they are available. The April Update includes additional features and improvements for your Windows 10 phone. To manually check for the update, on Start, swipe over to the All apps list, then select Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates,” the support page reads.
“Note: Availability may vary by manufacturer, model, country or region, mobile operator or service provider, hardware limitations, and other factors.”
Microsoft will begin the automatic rollout of Windows 10 April 2018 Update on Tuesday, the same day when it releases this month’s Patch Tuesday security updates. The new OS feature update will be shipped to the first wave of supported systems via Windows Update, but it’s still not clear if Windows phones are included or not.
We have reached out to Microsoft for more information on this, but for the time being, take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism, as it could be just an error on the company’s side.
