Samsung has finally made the Galaxy A6 and the Galaxy A6+ official after the phones unintentionally went live on one of its website for the Indonesian market. Full specifications and details about its latest Galaxy A series smartphones have been revealed by the company globally. Until now, there had only been rumours surrounding the phones and their design, features, and specifications were leaked ahead of the launch.
The Samsung Galaxy A6 and the Galaxy A6+ feature large Super AMOLED screens with minimal bezels, just like the Galaxy A8 (2018). They also feature octa-core processors, 4GB RAM, and 64GB internal storage. The Galaxy A6 and the Galaxy A6+ lack Bixby voice commands but they have access to Bixby Home, Bixby Vision, and Bixby Reminders. The Galaxy A6 has a single rear-facing camera, but the A6+ has a dual-camera setup. Let’s have a look at their design and specifications.
The Galaxy A6 is the basic variant with a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED infinity display. The aspect ratio is tall, at 18:5:9 and it has HD+ screen resolution (1480×720 pixels). The Galaxy A6+ features a slightly bigger 6-inch super AMOLED screen but with a much higher resolution of Full HD+ (2220×1080 pixels). They support the Always On Display mode as well.
Both the phones are sleek and stylish. They have metal bodies, unlike the Galaxy A8 (2018), which has a glass back. Both phones have rear-facing fingerprint readers, placed just below the camera module. They have been launched in four colour variants: Black, Blue, Gold and Lavender.
While the Galaxy A6 uses Samsung’s own Exynos 7870 processor, the A6+ uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor. The phones have 2 variants to choose from: 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage or 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage. Both phones run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. The Galaxy A6 has a 3,000mAh battery, while the A6+ has a 3,500 mAh battery. Since the phones have NFC chips, they are compatible with Samsung Pay. Other connectivity features include GPS, dual-SIM card slot, 4G Cat. 6 LTE, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm headphone port.
Both the phones are being marketed for their photographic capabilities and would be ideally suited for selfie freaks. The Galaxy A6 has a 16MP front-facing camera (f/1.9), while the Galaxy A6+ has a 24MP front-facing camera (f/1.9), both featuring an adjustable LED selfie flash, which helps take perfectly lighted selfies even in dark environments. The phones also support facial recognition for authenticating a user. The Galaxy A6 has a single 16MP rear-facing camera (f/1.7), while the Galaxy A6+ features a 16MP+5MP dual-camera (f/1.7) setup.
The Galaxy A6+ has seen Samsung retain the “Focus Mode” or the “Bokeh Effect” in its rear camera, that it was first introduced in the company’s smartphone lineup with the Galaxy Note 8 series. This feature lets the user control depth of field in a photo, i.e. surroundings can be blurred to focus on a single object. The feature can be used either while taking the photo or the effect can be added after the photo is taken. The phones also feature Dolby Atmos audio through loudspeakers.
