Amazon has announced the Fire HD 10 Kids Edition tablet. The device comes with a protective case which should protect the tablet from harsh handling, and includes sophisticated parental controls.
Amazon has announced the availability of the Fire HD 10 Kids Edition. The new offering from Amazon gives kids the power of the Fire HD 10 and parents the tools to better manage how their child uses the device. Aside from the Fire HD 10 tablet, buyers also get a year’s worth of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited and a kid-proof case (blue, pink, and yellow cases are available) to provide extra protection.
According to Amazon, the tablet is also protected by a “no questions asked” two-year guarantee where it can be replaced if the kid manages to break it.
Discussing the pre-order announcement, Kurt Beidler, Director of Kids & Family at Amazon, said:
As for the parental controls, Amazon FreeTime allows parents to do all sorts of things such as impose time limits based on the day, have the tablet switch off at bedtime, restrict apps based on categories for certain amounts of time, set age filters to block inappropriate content, add or remove content from FreeTime Unlimited, and enable or disable the kid-friendly browser within FreeTime.
Additionally, parents also have access to the Parent Dashboard which can provide daily activity reports to help determine appropriate limits. There are remote parental controls removing the need to track down the device to make changes, and lastly, there are Discussion Cards which provide parents with summaries and sample questions based on books, videos, and educational apps and websites that are viewed in FreeTime so they can see how much their kid has learned.
Pre-orders are open now and shipping will begin on July 11. The device will set you back $199.99 and if you want to buy two, you can get $100 off. Find out more on Amazon.
