Actor and activist Rose McGowan, who was among the first to publicly accuse disgraced movie magnate Harvey Weinstein of rape, was indicted Monday by a grand jury on charges of cocaine possession.
The charges stem from an incident on Jan. 20,2017, when McGowan’s wallet and two bags were allegedly found by a cleaning crew on a United airliner at Dulles International Airport in Washington, D. C., according to the New York Daily News .
Police said the two bags tested positive for cocaine.
But McGowan claims her wallet went missing while she was waiting at baggage claim after the flight. The “Charmed” star believes she was framed by Weinstein in hopes of stopping her from sharing her allegations against the producer.
News of the warrant for McGowan’s arrest first surfaced in late October 2017, just days after she accused Weinstein of rape.

According to McGowan’s lawyer, whoever might have planted the narcotics had several hours to do so before a cleaning crew would have discovered the bags.
In a statement to the Daily News, Weinstein’s attorney Ben Brafman denied the actor’s allegations:
“The detectives who investigated the drug charges against McGowan have categorically rejected her ludicrous claim that Mr. Weinstein planted the drugs in her wallet. Falsely accusing Mr. Weinstein of committing a crime is something McGowan has in our opinion done before and people must take note of her indictment and more importantly, her cavalier habit of falsely accusing Mr. Weinstein of criminal conduct he vigorously denies.”
As for McGowan, the maximum sentence for the charges against her is 10 years, according to WTOP. Her trial date will be set Tuesday at the Loudon County courthouse in Virginia.
