Xiaomi launched its Redmi 6 Pro smartphone in China on Sunday and the new mid-ranger brings along some interesting features to the brand’s highly-successful Redmi series from the company. In case you missed the launch, here are the top six features of the all-new Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro.
Although the Redmi 6 Pro isn’t the first Xiaomi smartphone to sport a notch display, it’s the first handset in the Redmi series to sport the cut-out design up top. Just like other smartphones with a notch, the Redmi 6 Pro features a front camera and other sensors in the cut-out area and sports a thin bezel at the bottom to offer a more immersive viewing experience. To accommodate the notch, the smartphone has opted for a 19:9 aspect ratio for its 5.84-inches IPS display, which bears a resolution of 720 x 1,520 pixels.
In the imaging department, the Redmi 6 Pro packs a vertically-stacked dual camera module at the back, which comprises a 12-megapixel primary sensor that offers 1.25-micron pixel size and a f/2.2 aperture. The primary shooter is accompanied by a secondary 5-megapixel sensor and an LED flash module. At the front, you get a 5-megapixel unit that offers AI-based Portrait mode and HDR.
The Redmi 6 Pro features a fingerprint sensor at the back for convenience and security, but the handset also comes with AI-based face unlock feature. As most Android phones come with face unlock feature these days, the smartphone goes a step ahead by integrating AI to make the authentication process more efficient and secure in comparison.
The performance on the Redmi 6 Pro is driven by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, which has been a popular choice for budget smartphones, thanks to the chipset’s battery efficiency. The SoC is clubbed with Adreno 506 GPU and either 3GB or 4GB of RAM. Considering that the SD625 has proved its mettle quite a few times, we expect that the Redmi 6 Pro will offer a reliable performance.
Most of us play games and watch videos and movies on our phones and run out of battery before the day even ends. In order to provide enough juice to last through the day, Xiaomi’s Redmi 6 Pro is equipped with a massive 4,000mAh battery. As some of the previous handsets from Xiaomi are known to have delivered good battery life, Redmi 6 Pro’s runtime can be expected to be impressive.
Talking about the software, the Redmi 6 Pro runs Xiaomi’s Android Oreo-based MIUI 9 out of the box. The Chinese brand’s mobile platform has come a long way and tries to offer an improved performance with several customisations over the stock iteration of Android. Xiaomi’s tools can come in handy and offer interesting functionality without turning to any third-party applications.
All said and done, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is worth watching out for. Not only does it offer an impressive set of features, but it’s been priced quite attractively too. The base variant of the handset will set you back by RMB 999 (approx. Rs 10,500).
