Activision officially releases the opening cinematic for the ‚Blood of the Dead‘ Zombies campaign coming in the Treyarch-developed Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
Details on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Zombies experiences are slowly brought out from the dark recesses they’ve been shuffling around in into the light of public knowledge. Earlier this week, Activision reintroduced fans to the heroes of the “Voyage of Despair” and “IX” modes through the “Chaos” story trailer, and now the time has finally come to meet the group of misfits unfortunate enough to be living in the “Blood of the Dead” universe.
Like the other two Zombies modes shown off earlier this week, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s “Blood of the Dead” follows the struggles of four very unlucky souls as they fight for survival against hordes of undead. The trick this time is that instead of trying to escape a doomed ship or survive in an ancient coliseum, the heroes of this mode are trying to break out of prison.
As seen in the trailer above, “Blood of the Dead” doesn’t follow a random group of new heroes. Rictofen, Dempsy, Takeo, Nicolai are back, and they’re trying to save the future. Their surroundings should be familiar to long-time Call of Duty: Black Ops fans too. They’re back in Alcatraz, the setting for one of the DLC maps from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. It’s not yet confirmed whether or not this is indeed the same map, but it will likely ring familiar to old fans even if it isn’t.
In addition to this trailer, Activision announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be getting a special edition modeled after the spooky box seen in the “Chaos” trailer. Officially dubbed the “Mystery Box Edition,” this version of the game will come packaged with a wide range of goodies that fans of Call of Duty’s Zombies mode are certain to appreciate.
Zombies mode is definitely in the spotlight this time around, and it’s going to have a lot of work to do since Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 won’t have a story campaign. While many disregard the campaign as inconsequential, there are some out there who enjoy the often bombastic style. Since the campaign won’t be there to provide it anymore, Zombies mode will have to carry the burden of selling the game to those who aren’t all that interested in its competitive multiplayer features. So far, it looks like Zombies just might be able to pull it off.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will release on October 12 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
