The nerve agent that killed a woman and sickened her partner in the UK last week was contained in a small perfume bottle, according to the brother of one of the victims.
Matthew Rowley said his brother Charles, who is awake but seriously ill in the Salisbury District Hospital, told him he’d picked up a scent bottle reportedly filled with Novichok, the BBC reported .
Britain’s Metropolitan Police, who are investigating the incident, previously said the poison was found in a “small bottle” but wouldn’t confirm what kind.
Charles Rowley, 45, was left fighting for his life after being exposed to Novichok on June 30, while his partner, Dawn Sturgess, 44, died last week.
Officials have said Charles Rowley is “not out of the woods yet,” and his brother said he is “absolutely not the brother I know” after speaking to him on the phone — though he is now eating solid food.
Investigators believe the incident is linked to the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, in March.
On Friday, police reiterated that people in the Amesbury area shouldn’t pick up strange items on the street — including cosmetics.
