PlayStation and the PS4 won E3 2018 thanks to games like The Last of Us 2 and Marvel’s Spider-Man, according to the Game Critics Awards.
E3 2018 was full of surprising announcements and reveals. But who “won” the world’s biggest gaming event? That’s the question asked by every gamer after every E3. For the past two decades, the Game Critics Awards have presented the Best of E3 Awards and this year’s no different. According to the independent group consisting of 50 global media and influencer outlets, PlayStation and the PS4 won E3 2018.
PlayStation won a total of six Best of E3 Awards for E3 2018, followed by EA with four wins and Microsoft with three wins. The Last of Us 2 won Special Commendations for Graphics and Special Commendation for Sound, while Marvel’s Spider-Man won Best Action/Adventure game and Best Console game. Those two were definitely highlights of the PlayStation E3 2018 Showcase. Dreams won Best Original Game, and Tetris Effect won Best VR/AR Game.
Sucker Punch’s PS4 exclusive Ghost of Tsushima also won Special Commendations for Graphics award, which it shares with The Last of Us 2. The only other game which shares that particular award was CD Projekt Red’s highly-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077. These are all graphical powerhouses, which awed gamers worldwide when they were presented at E3 2018.
Although EA’s E3 2018 press conference wasn’t exactly beloved by gamers, it still grabbed a bunch of Game Critics Awards. These include Best PC Game and Best Action Game for Anthem, as well as Best Online Multiplayer and Best Sports Game for Battlefield V and FIFA 19, respectively.
Despite all this, it doesn’t mean that PlayStation was the definitive winner of the annual event. According to statistics provided by Twitter, Super Smash Bros Ultimate was the most tweeted game of E3 2018. Nintendo dominated the social media site, in terms of most tweeted topics. PlayStation only managed to garner enough buzz to grab fifth place in the overall charts, with games like The Last of Us 2 and Death Stranding turning out to be the most discussed PS4 exclusives.
