All the rumours and leaks regarding the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 in one place.
“The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is expected to sport a motorised selfie camera”
The Mi Mix range from Xiaomi has certainly been one of the most talked about series in the company’s smartphone portfolio. And what grabs even more attention is the fact that the reason behind this popularity is not mind-boggling sales numbers, but the fact that a Mix device has often been seen as a futuristic smartphone of sorts. It all started with the original Mi Mix, whose bezel-less design quickly prompted other brands to follow suit. And while it wasn’t actually the first smartphone to achieve such a feat, it was certainly the most mainstream one. Two years down the line, the Mix series might have lost its charm, especially with almost all recent smartphones coming with ultra-thin bezels. Does Xiaomi have what it takes to revive the Mix series with the upcoming Mi Mix 3? Here’s what the rumour mill suggests.
By the way, that’s not a typing error. According to the latest leaks, the Xiaomi Mi Mix will purportedly sport a very high screen-to-body ratio. To achieve such a high ratio, brands either use extremely small bezels, like what Samsung did with the Galaxy S9, or opt for a notch like the iPhone X. But almost all smartphones, barring the iPhone X, sport a distinguishable chin. In fact, the previous generation Mix smartphones also came with a slim chin which also housed the front-facing camera. But that’s where things start to get interesting. According to the leaked images, the Mi Mix 3 will not come with a distinguishable chin. In fact, the bezels on all four sides seem extremely thin, so much so that it can be termed as one of the first devices to sport a “full” full-screen display. But then where’s the front-facing camera?
Much like the recently-announced Vivo NEX smartphone, the Mi Mix 3 is also expected to come with a pop-up selfie camera which will utilise a motorised setup. While having moving parts in a smartphone does have its drawbacks, this is what we’ll have to content with until brands find a way to fit a camera under the display. On the other hand, information from the interwebs suggest that the smartphone would pack dual rear facing cameras. Unfortunately, there is not much information regarding the specifications of either of the camera setups as of now.
Interestingly, in recent leaked images, we can see a fingerprint icon on the display of the smartphone. While this cannot be taken as a confirmation of the feature, but it certainly raises some eyebrows. As such, there is a decent possibility that the upcoming Mi Mix 3 could house an in-display fingerprint scanner.
On the software side of things, we expect the Mi Mix 3 to boot Android Oreo-based MIUI 10 out of the box. The Chinese giant recently took the covers of its latest iteration of MIUI. It comes with a ton of new features including gesture-support, new animations, and picture-in-picture mode, among others.
Unfortunately, while we do not know much about the internals of the purported Mi Mix 3, we do have a few speculations, taking the previous Mi Mix smartphones in mind. We expect the Mi Mix 3 to boast a Snapdragon 845 processor, coupled with up to 8GB of RAM. Xiaomi is also expected to launch 128GB and 256GB storage variants of the smartphone. That said, if the brand continues with the ceramic build is something that needs to be seen.
Recent rumours suggest that the Mi Mix 3 should be official sometime this September, which is in line with previous Mi Mix smartphone launches. That said, please bear in mind that the information in this post is not confirmed by Xiaomi, and is based entirely on leaks and rumours. We’ll update the post as and when we get new information. Until then, stay tuned to 91mobiles.
