Just a few weeks back, an official render of Samsung’s upcoming flagship Galaxy Tab S4 tablet had been leaked online, giving us our first look at its design. An alleged hands-on video of the tablet has now surfaced online, which suggests the tablet may go official sooner than expected.
The short 10-second video, which was originally posted on Weibo, allegedly shows the Galaxy Tab S4 in Black and White color options. This could mean the tablet will be available in just two colors at launch in most markets. In terms of the video, the tablets seen in the video do appear to have the same design as shown by leaked renders recently. On the back of the tablet, we see a single rear camera with an LED flash module placed right below it. The AKG branding on the bottom, however, isn’t seen very clearly in the video.
According to latest leaks and rumors, the Galaxy Tab S4 will come with a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display, larger than the 9.7-inch sized panel on its predecessor. The Super AMOLED panel is said to offer 2560 x 1600 Quad HD+ resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Under the hood, Galaxy Tab S4 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor from last year. While it is no doubt disappointing that Samsung is not using the latest Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810 chipset on the Galaxy Tab S4, we should keep in mind that the Snapdragon 835 is a mighty chipset and should be more than capable of delivering smooth performance on the tablet. The octa-core Snapdragon 835 will be coupled with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM for smooth multitasking performance. Connectivity-wise, the tablet is expected to support Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, USB 3.1 Type-C, and 4G LTE .
In the camera department, Galaxy Tab S4 is expected to come with upgraded front and rear cameras. While the rear camera is expected to see an upgrade to a 12MP or 12MP unit, the front camera will be upgraded to an 8MP unit. Thanks to the higher resolution camera on the front, you can expect the Galaxy Tab S4 to deliver superior clarity for video chats and even the occasional selfies that you might take. In terms of storage, rumors suggest the Galaxy Tab S4 will come with 64GB of onboard storage, twice as much as the Galaxy Tab S3. For further expansion up to 256GB, the tablet will include a microSD card slot as well. Another key difference between the Galaxy Tab S3 and the Galaxy Tab S4 will be the omission of the fingerprint sensor. The Galaxy Tab S4, similar to the company’s latest flagship smartphones, will not have a physical home button on the front. Instead, it will come with an iris scanner for biometric authentication. Keeping the lights on will be a large 7300mAh capacity battery. In terms of software, the tablet will likely ship with the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box with the Samsung Experience UX on top.
Samsung’s previous flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S3 was launched in the Indian market in June last year at Rs.47,990 for the LTE variant. We can expect the Galaxy Tab S4 to be priced closer to the Rs.50,000 mark in India, which would make it among the most expensive Android tablets on sale.
