In celebration of Banjo Kazooie’s 20th anniversary, Rare’s Sea of Thieves adds the Bear and Bird Figurehead as a cosmetic item for a limited time only.
The Sea of Thieves community may have been expecting Rare to have an in-game celebration of Banjo Kazooie’s 20th anniversary, but until today, it was unknown what form it would take. Many presumed it would be related to the Easter eggs located on Plunder Island or as a Bilge Rat Adventure event, but there was very little evidence to go on. However, Rare is not disappointing in this field, as the longstanding video game developer recently added a vanity item in celebration of the event.
For those unaware, the original Banjo Kazooie launched on June 29,1998, and received a Console Action Game of the Year and Outstanding Achievement in Art/Graphics award in 1999. It was later remastered for the Xbox 360 in 2008 and appeared in Rare Replay for the Xbox One in 2015. This Bear and Bird Figurehead in Sea of Thieves is something Sea of Thieves and Rare fans will be excited to see.
As seen below, the figurehead is exactly what one may expect, as its a bear bearing a shield that contains a symbol of an orange bird. However, it’s worth mentioning that this cosmetic item looks more realistic than the standard graphics of Banjo Kazooie, but that’s also to be expected. Check it out up close below:
Moreover, the figurehead will be priced at 1998 gold, which is fitting because it’s the year of the original launch. It’s also worth noting that this figurehead is only available in July, so fans who wish to add this to their collection will need to act soon.
Although Sea of Thieves launched to mixed reviews, many may be glad Rare is continuing its support of the game, especially since it still managed to exceed Microsoft’s sales expectations. As part of that, the game will also be getting three more content updates in 2018 alongside Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores. Players who act quickly then will be able to tackle this new content with the titular characters of the beloved Banjo-Kazooie franchise their side, or to be more precise, their fore.
Sea of Thieves is available now on PC and Xbox One.
