Celebrity attorney Michael Avenatti, who rose to fame for his representation of porn star Stormy Daniels, hinted on Wednesday that he may run for president in 2020.
In a tweet, Avenatti said that he will run if President Trump seeks reelection, adding “we can’t relive 2016.”
IF (big) he seeks re-election, I will run, but only if I think that there is no other candidate in the race that has a REAL chance at beating him. We can’t relive 2016. I love this country, our values and our people too much to sit by while they are destroyed. #FightClub #Basta

Avenatti has become a household name since he catapulted into the spotlight as Stormy Daniels‘ legal counsel. Since then, he’s moved to represent every Trump administration foe that has captured headlines, including immigrant children, ICE whistleblowers and most recently a comedian who prank called President Trump.
Online, he’s marshaled an army of “resistance” supporters who are backing his anti-Trump theatrics. And the California-based attorney has been a constant face on television. A report from the right-wing Media Research Center found that Avenatti made 147 television appearances over a ten week span. During that time frame, he appeared on Anderson Cooper’s show on 20 occasions.
At one point, there were rumors that Avenatti might be teaming up with former Trump aide Anthony Scaramucci for a television show. The pair even appeared together on Stephen Colbert’s program. However, Avenatti later said that he has ruled out a career in television.
Michael Avenatti hasn’t spent any time in the political arena. But, then again, before November of 2016, neither did Donald Trump. When Twitter users noted his lack of experience, Avenatti hit back, saying “To those that claim that only a traditional politician with ”experience“ can beat Trump, go back & look at the results from 2016.
To those that claim that only a traditional politician with “experience” can beat Trump, go back & look at the results from 2016. He beat all 15 of those candidates that he faced (crushed many). If we go down the same path and are not smart, don’t be surprised with the result.

He’s weighed in on the 2020 race before — which at the moment looks like a free-for-all with a crowded field of possible candidates — in late June, Avenatti tweeted “the candidate in 2020 better be a take no prisoners street fighter who is prepared to go 15 rounds in a VERY brutal campaign. It will be a cage match like no other in modern times. The future of the republic may depend on it.”
Only time will tell if Michael Avenatti 2020 is going to be a phrase we’ll be saying more often.
