Starring: Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener
What we know: Forget The Avengers – this year’s biggest superhero squad comes fully animated. 14 years on from their 2004 debut, Pixar’s The Incredibles are back in a long-awaited sequel. We finally have a full trailer for the film, which sees Elastigirl become the family’s main superhero, leaving Mr. Incredible to manage the kids, with… mixed results.

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Neve Campbell
What we know: What if Die Hard, but starring the Rock. And the building is three times as high. And the Rock is an amputee. That’s Skyscraper. Let’s be honest, it’s not the most original looking movie in the world, but we’d watch Dwayne Johnson in just about anything, and the patriot amputee security expert fighting to save his family is basically the role he was born for.
Starring: Jodie Foster, Sterling K. Brown, Charlie Day, Sofia Boutella, Dave Bautista, Jeff Goldblum
What we know: Jodie Foster is a night nurse to the criminal underworld in this action movie from first-time director (but long-time writer) Drew Pearce, which shows more than a hint of influence from the John Wick films. The near-future setting looks particularly fun (3D-printed guns!) and we will happily watch absolutely anything that features Jeff Goldblum as a criminal kingpin.
Starring: Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Henry Cavill
What we know: Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in the sixth (6!) Mission: Impossible movie, this time subtitled Fallout. Once again there’s an impossible mission, government bickering, betrayal, silly tech, and some of the biggest stunts in movie history. We got our first trailer during the Super Bowl, and it was the best of all the mid-game teases.

Starring: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michael Peña
What we know: Scott Lang is back on the run after helping Captain America save the day in Civil War, but at least this time he’s got help: Hope is suiting up as the Wasp to bring us some tag team heroics – and the first (joint) lead role for a woman in a Marvel movie yet (at least until Captain Marvel arrives in 2019).

Starring: Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Mark Gatiss, Peter Capaldi, Chris O’Dowd
What we know: Ewan McGregor plays an adult Christopher Robin in this live-action take on Winnie the Pooh, which sees the bear reunite with his owner a few decades on, once he has a daughter of his own. It’s from Disney, so expect the tone and voices to skew close to the classic cartoons, though the visuals are actually closer to the original book. Either way, this already looks like the heartwarming family film to beat this year.
Starring: Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Justin Theroux
What we know: James Bond this is not. Mila Kunis stars as a woman who discovers that her ex-boyfriend was secretly a CIA agent all along, and gets unwittingly dragged into some sort of evil plot, along with her best friend (Kate McKinnon). Expect this to be big, brash, and silly – but hopefully a lot of fun too.
Starring: Jason Statham, Rainn Wilson, Bingbing Li, Ruby Rose
What we know: It’s Jason Statham vs. the biggest shark you’ve ever seen. Do we really need to say more? Alright, fine. The shark is actually a megalodon, a supposedly extinct species that grew up to 60 feet long. Turns out, there’s at least one left, and the only man brave enough to do that thing where you punch a shark on the nose to make it go away is the Stath himself.
Starring: Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Boyd Holbrook, Thomas Jane
What we know: Shane Black’s career has finally come full circle. After acting in the original Predator way back then, the acclaimed writer/director (of Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys, most recently) is back to create the latest attempt to recapture that Arnie magic. Except instead of Mr Universe we get Jacob Tremblay (you know, the skinny kid from Room), and the South American jungle has been swapped for a US suburb. Don’t worry though – it looks like there are plenty of soldier and guns and ultra-violence too.
Starring: Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed
What we know: Tom Hardy is Eddie Brock, the old-school Spider-Man antagonist turned full-blown villain after he inherits the black ’symbiote‘ costume, turning him into the monstrous Venom. Except in the trailer for this spin-off film there’s no sign of Spidey, Brock’s thick New York accent is transplanted to San Francisco, and there’s no sign of, well, Venom. Y’know, the main character. We are a little bit concerned.
Starring: Jon Hamm, Chris Hemsworth, Dakota Johnson, Jeff Bridges
What we know: Part Hotel Artemis, part Hateful Eight, Drew Goddard’s second film as a director (after The Cabin in the Woods, though he’s also written loads) sees seven strangers cross paths at the El Royale: an old hotel that straddles the California and Nevada state lines. There’s more to the El Royale than it seems though – and to the guests.
Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer
What we know: Jamie Lee Curtis is back in yet another Halloween sequel, but this one actually looks… good? Could it be? Having David Gordon Green in the director’s seat doesn’t hurt, and the trailer shows off some inventive scares and impressive visuals. We’re in.
Starring: Rami Malek
What we know: Mr. Robot is becoming Mr. Mercury, as Rami Malek steps into the shoes of the one and only Freddie Mercury in this biopic of the Queen frontman and songwriter. Will this be the killer Queen film we’ve all been waiting for?
Starring: Dakota Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Tilda Swinton
What we know: Director Luca Guadagnino follows up his enormously acclaimed Call Me By Your Name with an altogether different film: a remake of his countryman Dario Argento’s legendary horror classic Suspiria. Just like the original, it looks equal parts terrifying and strange, in no small part thanks to a score from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. Expect this one to be a stormer.
Starring: Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Jude Law, Johnny Depp
What we know: Eddie Redmayne is picking up his wand once again as Newt Scamander, this time caught in the midst of the battle between a young Dumbledore (Jude Law) and the infamous Grindelwald (Johnny Depp). There’ll be magic and hijinks and all that good stuff.

Starring: Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx, Ben Mendelsohn
What we know: Yup, this is yet another film about stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, this time firmly in the thunderous action movie mould. Taron Egerton is brave sir Robin this time around, in a setting that seems to be a confusing mix of the medieval and the modern. It all looks pretty exciting though, so consider us intrigued.
Starring: John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch
What we know: John C. Reilly’s arcade baddie breaks out of the local network and onto the world wide web. Chaos ensues. From iPad games to clickbait, this sequel looks to be throwing Ralph up against the best (and worst) of the modern online age, while the latest trailer throws in a whole mess of Disney characters too. We can’t wait.
Starring: Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson
What we know: Black Panther villain Michael B. Jordan is stepping back into the ring in the sequel to Rocky spin-off Creed, this time with a new director and a script by Sly Stallone himself.
