The video game developer Digital Extremes officially announces that its free-to-play third-person shooter Warframe is coming to the Nintendo Switch console.
Not too long ago, the Nintendo Switch’s library grew to include the likes of Epic Games’ wildly popular multiplayer sandbox survival title, Fortnite, which led to owners of the Big N’s hybrid mobile console giving the game’s player base a big boost. Now, it looks as if the system is set to receive yet another free-to-play third-person shooter, as Digital Extremes has officially announced that Warframe is coming to the Switch.
This much was confirmed during TennoCon, Digital Extremes’ third annual Warframe convention, with the Canadian developer and publisher unveiling that Panic Button will be bringing the title to Nintendo Switch. Those who own the console and are looking to get a better idea as to what kind of content they should expect from Warframe would do well to watch the free-to-play game’s launch trailer for the Switch below.
For those unaware, Panic Button has been porting a lot of titles over to the Nintendo Switch lately, with the developer’s most recent project being the creation of a Switch version for Bethesda and MachineGames’ Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. As it so happens, the company ported another Bethesda-published title just last year, with id Software’s DOOM making the leap to the Big N’s hybrid mobile console. Those worried about Warframe‘s transition to Switch should rest easy, as many have praised Panic Button’s work with both Wolfenstein 2 and DOOM on the system.
Taking everything into consideration, it will be interesting to see how much more sizable Warframe‘s audience will become when the title’s on Nintendo Switch, for not only is the barrier of entry non-existent, but also it could fill the void for many who had hoped for Destiny 2 to come to the platform. After all, many Warframe players would attest that the Digital Extremes title is everything fans of Bungie’s science fiction shooter series would want and then some, and its availability on Switch might sway some into the way of the Tenno.
Warframe is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch release date coming soon.
