Xiaomi has announced new Android One smartphones in Spain today. The Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite are successors to last year’s Android One device, Mi A1 which brought stock Android in an affordable package.
Just a few days after launching the Mi Max 3 in China, Xiaomi has announced two new smartphones in its Android One portfolio. These two phones – Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite are successors to last year’s Mi A1 which was the Android One version of another Xiaomi phone, Mi 5X, a China exclusive.
The Xiaomi Mi A2 is basically a rebranded Mi 6X with stock Android instead of the company’s very own fork of Android, MIUI. It has the same hardware that Mi 6X carries. This means that it has the same 5.99-inch FHD+ LCD display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, as well as a Snapdragon 660 chip, and same dual-camera setup with the 12 and 20-megapixel sensors. You will also find the same 20-megapixel selfie camera with a flash on the A2 and the 6X. All this is powered by a 3010mAh battery which you can charge using the USB Type-C port on the phone.
You will be able to buy the Mi A2 in three different colours – Gold, Blue, and Black. When it comes to RAM and storage, you can choose from a combination of 4 GB RAM/32GB storage (€249), 4 GB RAM/64GB storage (€279), and 6GB RAM/128GB storage (€349).
The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, on the other hand, comes with a Snapdragon 625 SoC, a 5.84-inch FHD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19:9, a 4000mAh battery, a dual camera setup with 12 and 5-megapixel sensors at the back and a front selfie camera with a 5-megapixel sensor. It does come with a notch on the display but that is compensated for less bezel than the A2.
If you compare the Mi A2 Lite with last year’s Mi A1, you will find that both of these phones use the same Snapdragon 625 processor. You will be able to buy the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite in three colours – Gold, Blue, and Black.
The available options for the A2 Lite are differentiated by the RAM and storage they offer. For the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant, you will need to pay €179 and the 4GB RAM and 64GB variant costs €229.
Xiaomi has opted to remove the 3.5mm audio jack from both the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. It is unclear if the company will be providing a USB Type-C headset or (as is more common) a USB to 3.5mm adapter with the phone or not.
Both of these Android One smartphones are being launched first in Spain, where the company expanded to last year but Xiaomi has plans to launch these smartphones to other markets as well. The Mi A2 will start selling on 27 th July in Spain and it will gradually be launched in the mentioned markets throughout August.
