It was a great ending to a potentially scary situation,
ST. JOSPEH, MI – Coast Guard personnel recently rescued a pair of kite surfers from Lake Michigan.
The incident occurred when a crew from Coast Guard Station St. Joseph responded to a kite surfer in distress near Grand Mere State Park. Upon arrival, the boat crew discovered a man who indicated that he hadn’t seen his friend in a more than an hour.
Risky swimming, up to 8-foot waves forecast for Lake Michigan
The boat crew immediately began conducting a search for the missing surfer. Fortunately, they located and rescued the second surfer soon after and brought both back to shore.
The National Weather Service warned of risky swim conditions from St. Joseph to Ludington over the weekend and into Monday. That included strong currents and waves high enough to overtop piers.
