Bungie reveals new information and details regarding Destiny 2: Forsaken during its combat stream including the completely overhauled mod system for weapons.
Fans have seen and heard a lot about Destiny 2: Forsaken already, through flashy CG trailers, online articles, and plenty of social media posts from community managers and developers alike. With less than a month left before the expansion arrives, Bungie has begun its series of Twitch streams showing off the many changes and enhancements the studio has discussed since Forsaken was revealed. Today’s combat stream finally gave fans a glimpse at how the mods system has been updated.
Weapon and armor mods have always been a sore spot with the community in the first year of Destiny 2 and in an effort to make the system more compelling and interesting, Bungie has completely evolved the experience inside of Forsaken. Gone are the light level enhancing legendary and rare blue mods, replaced with a more dynamic set of mods that can be applied to weapons and gear for glimmer. Using the Better Devils hand cannon as an example, Bungie showed off the new mods that focus on providing enhancements to the actual weapon such as a slightly bigger magazine, extra damage against elites, reducing recoil, and other perks.
Earning mods has also been changed somewhat as well. While every gun will drop with at least one mod, players can acquire more by dismantling modded gear. In the live stream demo, one of the many Better Devils was dismantled, which turned the hand cannon into glimmer, shards, and the currently equipped mod, which can then be used on any available weapon. Along with the return of random rolls, this new mod system goes a long way towards letting players create their ideal weapon.
One caveat to this new system is exotic weapons, which retain fixed rolls and mods since these weapons are supposed to be incredibly powerful already. The combat stream also showed off the retooled weapon slot system, essentially allowing players to wield kinetic and elemental weapons in either the primary or secondary slots. Most Sniper Rifles and Shotguns have also rejoined the primary and secondary slots, giving players plenty of options for creating unique loadouts once the expansion arrives.
Destiny 2: Forsaken releases on September 4,2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
