The smartphone growth of Huawei increased considerably for the second quarter of this year to the point where it surpassed Apple’s iPhone growth
Apple’s Q2 2018 earnings reported a total of 41.3 million iPhones sold, and while other phone manufacturers have not come close to selling as many devices as the California-based giant, Huawei actually performed much better than its close rival this quarter. The latest sales figure is the reason why the Chinese firm has overtaken Apple as the second most popular smartphone brand in the world, with just Samsung standing in its path.
Despite poor Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus sales, Samsung remained at the top of IDC’s figures with 71.5 million shipments, obtaining a 20.9 percent market share for this quarter. However, the company managed to ship more units during the same quarter a year ago, which shows that a design overhaul might be needed for the Galaxy S series of devices in order to compel customers to upgrade their existing phones.

Huawei grew massively, and while 54.2 million shipments this quarter is still behind Samsung’s numbers, the year-over-year change difference is an astonishing 40 percent. Huawei shipped 38.5 million units during the same quarter a year ago, which shows that the tech giant has been penetrating the global market with ferocity. However, as the company does this, Xiaomi and OPPO are not slowing down either.
Huawei is planning to overtake Apple in overall shipments next year, with the Chinese giant having already reached 100 million smartphone shipments this year, with the company expected to reach 200 million shipments for 2018 .

This will include devices that are stamped with the Huawei and Honor brand name. Thanks to its secondary smartphone division, Honor has registered a 150 percent in sales growth, showing that premium smartphones with flagship-like hardware specifications and lowered pricing are some ingredients that have displayed significant results for phone manufacturers.
If companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, and others want to generate a significant amount of revenue, then they will need to come to an agreement with the U. S. government and the four major carriers to allow them to sell their handsets officially in the country. The U. S. is the biggest smartphone market in terms of revenue generation, with Apple and Samsung having the biggest piece in it.
