Medical mystery: Another MLB pitcher has hand, foot and mouth disease

Yankees‘ J. A. Happ may miss his next start.
Coincidence? Probably. Strange? Certainly.
Less than two weeks after the New York Mets and Noah Sydergaard passed through the Yankee Stadium visitor’s clubhouse, the home team’s newest acquisition has also contracted hand, foot and mouth disease.
That’s no way to welcome J. A. Happ to New York.
Syndergaard landed on the disabled list, and the Mets guessed the pitcher contracted the disease after working a children’s camp during the All-Star break. It generally only happens in children 5 years old and less.
The Yankees say Happ’s case is more mild and he may be able to start Saturday against the first-place Boston Red Sox. (Or, maybe infect them. It is contagious virus, after all.)
„He doesn’t have any idea and there’s a lot of speculation but I don’t think you guys are going to get any answers,“ Yankees GM Brian Cashman sai d. „He flew commercially from the midwest to here, so I don’t know if it’s possible that something on the way happened. No one is going to really have an answer to it other than just guessing.“
